Christian University in Oregon Hosts Executive Secretary of National Peace Lobbyist Organization

Diane Randall, executive secretary of the Friends Committee on National Legislation the largest team of registered peace lobbyists in Washington, D.C. will present a free public lecture from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 21, on the campus of George Fox University in Newberg, Ore.
Randall will speak on The Privilege and Responsibility of Faithful Citizenship in Room 102 of the universitys Edwards-Holman Science Center. Her visit is being sponsored by George Foxs Center for Peace and Justice.
Randalls background includes many years as an executive director of statewide advocacy organizations, a passion for rebuilding the democratic system in our country, a record of achievements in lobbying and citizen engagement, and a spiritual grounding in the Religious Society of Friends.
In addition to her evening presentation, Randall will lecture in an 11:40 a.m. political science class in Room 103 of the Hoover Academic Building and again at 1:40 p.m. in a philosophy class in Room 209 of the Stevens Center. She also will introduce the FCNL internship program to interested students during lunch beginning at 12:35 p.m. in the Klages Dining Hall.
Before joining the FCNL, Randall was executive director of Partnership for Strong Communities, a Connecticut-based nonprofit organization providing leadership, advocacy, and policy development on solutions to homelessness, affordable housing and community development.
Randalls engagement in the peace movement began in the early 1980s, when she left her position as a high school English teacher in Omaha, Neb., to direct the Omaha Nuclear Freeze Campaign. She relocated to Connecticut in 1986, where she directed the state Network to Abolish the Death Penalty and worked for the Office of Urban Affairs of the Archdiocese of Hartford, launching a 20-year career lobbying the state legislature.
The FCNL, founded in 1943, connects historic Quaker testimonies on peace, equality, simplicity, and truth with peace and social justice issues that the United States government is or should be addressing. FCNL is nonpartisan and is the oldest registered ecumenical lobby in Washington, D.C.
Over the past 60-plus years, FCNL has played a pivotal role in the creation of the Peace Corps, was instrumental in lobbying for the creation of the Arms Control and Disarmament Agency, helped lobby for the Civil Rights Act, and led efforts in Washington to oppose both the first (1991) and second (2003) Iraq wars.
